I have served as Supervisor of Roscommon Township for 25 years, its assessor for 16 years, licensed through the State Tax Commission as a Michigan Advanced Assessing Officer and has done a dual role as Supervisor/Assessor for the township since 2006.
You need a representative that will support your ideas, fight for the needs of your community and earn your respect. I have a strong work ethic, and I value customer service. Those qualities, along with my experience and great pride for northern Michigan, make me the perfect choice for your state representative.
“We the People” are to me, the most powerful first three words of the Constitution. State and local government officials that are closest to the people are more responsive to citizens, and better informed for representing their constituents on many important issues. Many lives were lost so that we may have that representation and freedom and I would be honored to be your voice in Lansing. I commit to seek out the voices of Northern Michigan, listen carefully and speak up and act on your behalf.
Time to simplify and lessen the burden of the Michigan property tax. Frustrated by high property taxes, voters approved Proposal A twenty-eight years ago to reduce property taxes by creating a new system for funding schools. This new funding included raising the sales tax from 4% to 6%, a new transfer tax on sales of properties and in addition to the 6 mills for schools, non-homestead properties could be assessed an additional 18 mills. Since then, legislators have been handing out exemptions like candy at a parade. This erodes the fair and equitable property tax system. I believe it is time for a Proposal B to change the assessment level from 50% of true cash value to 35% on all properties and eliminate the exemptions at the property tax level and instead shift to a state income tax exemption.
The Ukrainian Parliament, after decades of strict gun control laws, reconsidered their stance on the Second Amendment and voted to decriminalize gun ownership for self-defense. Unfortunately, it took the invasion of Russia to realize the importance of civilians having the right to keep and bear arms. Luckily, 200 years ago, our Founding Fathers realized these rights were fundamentally necessary. I declare my support of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and I continue to pray for the brave men, women and children of Ukraine.
If we join together and make our voices heard, we can fight for the change we want to see!
