I have also assisted taxpayers with agriculture exemptions, land banks, qualified industrial exemptions, and personal. I go above and beyond to help families and widows who have lost their loved ones by having them file a Property Tax Exemption form that keeps the transferring property from uncapping the taxable value
“We the People” are to me, the most powerful first three words of the Constitution. State and local government officials that are closest to the people are more responsive to citizens, and better informed for representing their constituents on many important issues. Many lives were lost so that we may have that representation and freedom and I would be honored to be your voice in Lansing. I commit to seek out the voices of Northern Michigan, listen carefully and speak up and act on your behalf.
Time to simplify and lessen the burden of the Michigan property tax. Frustrated by high property taxes, voters approved Proposal A twenty-eight years ago to reduce property taxes by creating a new system for funding schools. This new funding included raising the sales tax from 4% to 6%, a new transfer tax on sales of properties and in addition to the 6 mills for schools, non-homestead properties could be assessed an additional 18 mills. Since then, legislators have been handing out exemptions like candy at a parade. This erodes the fair and equitable property tax system. I believe it is time for a Proposal B to change the assessment level from 50% of true cash value to 35% on all properties and eliminate the exemptions at the property tax level and instead shift to a state income tax exemption.
